With the current Corvid 19 situation, many running events has been cancelled. This does not help with more and more continents getting it. Despite that, small runs organised by various groups are still going on. Having joined the previous events organised by SuperFit. I decided to go for their trail running event again.
There was a choice to do 11km or the 25km. Although I was tempted to do only the 11km, I thought since there is a chance to recep on the Macritchie to Rifle Range route, I decided to give it a shot.
This time back to Macritchie, I had done this route before but just cannot seemed to remember. The run was on 14th March starting at 7am. Considering it to be quite a decent time, there were already a lot of people and cars at Macritchie. Managed to get a slot, I rushed down to the green patch outside of Mushroom cafe to report. This time round the group was really huge! There were more people than I expected. Many of them looked really serious with the gear and stuff.
Standing one side, I was in group 2 where the pace is about 7min, luckily I knew one person leading as the pacer in the group, Ms Cher Tan. The group started quite large, but along the way maybe some of us got faster or slower the group got separated further from each other. Within Macritchie itself, I could still remember the path up to the ranger station.
We make a pit stop there and went on further towards the main road where there was an amino acid station waiting for us. There were the jelly and also some water for all to refill.
Along the road, we passed by the Rifle Range Road camp, which kinda brought back memories when I was with ammo base. From the main road, we turned in somehow into the forest and to the “pipeline” route where there were many water pipes, this place the road is more uneven, but still manageable, good point is the area is windy and open, but there’s also strong sunshine.
A little bit more we hit the Bukit Timah Nature reserve tracks, instead of going up hill, we went down hill towards the Dairy Farm side, and the U turn point for the 25Km is the MOE side. There was another Jelly point with water refill. It was also the last chance you can rest a bit before heading back.
The route back, was more confident for me as I knew what I was about to expect, we just had one rest point at the ranger post and that was it. It was a simple trail but overall very enjoyable. I also find that running it with people is much better than alone, although it is quite tiring having to wake up to meet. Running with the a group makes it more purposeful and also there were motivation, and if anything should happen, there was also someone around to help. Likely will join the event again!
