Another physical race in Singapore, as things eased up after covid restrictions. I began to think its time to review back all these SG runs which I once had. I had never joined the Run for Light before because it is too far in North East of Singapore, Punggol.
But I always see yearly my tortoise running club friend, Kevin Ho, takes part in this run. So I got interested and besides my company has some subsidy for sporting events. I decided to give it a shot. Punggol has a Servicemen club called SAFRA, usually there are many good strong runners from SAFRA running clubs in Singapore. It is also a fairly new town, mostly young families who are just starting their lives out. Thus, this place give a very vibrant and youthful feeling.

The organiser was kind enough to send us the race pack, which being an early bird, I got an extra bugs bunny tee. There were 2 tee shirts, the race bib inside the pack.
Physical Event
Physical event itself took place on 18th March in the evening at 5:30pm. It was held near the One Punggol integrated recreational area and the Punggol waterway Mall. The start and end point are within walkable distance. It was quite smart to put the end point near the mall so you get some free cheers from the mall goers.
The afternoon was hot and sunny. A small hiccup happened to me as I forgot to bring along my Vibrams but one lucky side was the slippers I was wearing are for running, just that I am not used to them and I always get blisters from running with them. Parked my car pretty far away from the start point as I thought that the mall might be packed. But turns out the crowd was pretty manageable.
Most of the participants wore the lime bright yellow shirt that the organiser provided. I wore the tortoise shirt instead. Ombre pink and pink sandals, my god so chi chi. Like I mentioned, Punggol has many good runners and a lot of my running friends lives there. I saw many of them too. Originally wanted to just join Kevin for the run but turns out to be a big fest for everyone. There were many young runners and fast too.
The route was pretty okay only a few little slopes, mangeable. But somehow the sandals and the heat just killed me, my feet is also a bit sore from the morning action( did a small 3 loops of mountain goat). Well cutting the long story short, managed to overtake many ladies along the way ( kinda happy that I could) but was in splits with one as we approached the finished line. I will say not much of my best timings, but it is under maintenance.
Ending
You have to go up and escalator to get the medal and drinks. They served gatorade sugar free strawberry drink. It was not bad to me, because I love the fake strawberry taste. Took a couple of pictures with Kevin and also Alice who was waiting in the restaurant nearby. Guess I need to make a come back for a better timing!
