Purple Parade 2015

Running requires some balance in a while.  As the year slowly etch to the end of the year, many runners take a break for the year end to recuperate and recharge for another year yet to come.  Some of the activities that you can do while resting is to share your ability to run with others, who are less privileged.  Volunteering for the running groups like RUNNING HOUR :https://runninghour.wordpress.com/ not only fulfil your running needs, at the same time you get to understand what running with underprivileged is like.

The Purple Parade brand is made up of a purple square and the brand name. Purple has a symbolism of  solidarity for people with special needs. Square symbolises equality (equal length on all sides), inclusiveness and strong building blocks.

There is basically no run or walk but just a short parade of the various contingents up the stage to take a photograph and represent the organisation which they are representing for.  It was really spectacular this year as for the 3rd year running, this year Prime Minister of Singapore, Mr Lee Hsien Loong, was there to support this movement.   There were many other supporters from the Government ministries like MOM, MSF to support this parade.

Helping the people with special needs up the stage to show the fair goers that they too can be proud people for the traits they do, whether it be sports, music or handicrafts.  It was really heart warming to see so many people gather together smiling , making a lot of noise and simply enjoying themselves.

I even tried my newly learnt sign language for number to bargain!  Do join the parade next year and give your support!
