As a continuation from the previous post, which I felt was really long. Well this goes to say pole dancing and aerial arts has became a real sport for many people now. In this post, I am just going to talk about the newly opened PXD Pole Studio ( a dance academy) and a pure pole practice studio, Wonderwall.
PXD POLE ACADEMY
PXD used to be the previous Pole Lab which attracts the younger crowd and also more males too. To speak the truth, pole sports should not be just restricted to women. I feel some guys can actually carry it off well even with heels and floor work. Glad that the number of guys taking this up are increasing, else it is not a fair balance, I guess pole is something like soccer. Most ladies will not opt for it but a lot of guys will do so.
PXD is run but the couple bosses, Louis Sue and Dionne Shen. They got together due to pole dancing. The studio is conveniently located in the then Heng Da building , now known as Cecil building. If I remember correctly, Freedom Yoga used to take over that space. There are altogether 3 studios there, one of which is hidden. The design of the studio is young trendy and electric. The studios are named after Greek Mystical animals.
The Minotaur room is the large one which is metallic black, there are also lights running down the ceiling, giving it a galaxy feel. The Pegasus is a smaller room with 3 poles, good for some pole practice with a small group. It is predominantly pink colour and also has a PXD mural with colourful rainbow lights too. There is also one more room beside the dressing room, this practice dance space is open concept.
There is a nice dressing area for you to change and freshen up. The toilets are also nearby from the lift lobby. One good thing is that there are 3 lifts in this building, so not like Slap or Starfire, you need to stand and wait up because there is only one lift.
The entrance to the studio has this cute effect and there is a sofa for students to sit and wait for class. Also to enhance the photo taking experience and decluttering the studios. Students can only leave their items at the bag racks to ensure that the studio space is not messy.
Do check out their classes as I feel their level classes can really build your strength.
Wonderwall Studios
For the Easterners, this is good news. A pole studio for practice in the East side. Nestled on the third floor of a shop house along Joo Chiat Road. The studio is longish in size and cosy. Like those meant truly for practice only. This studio has a toilet for wash up also. The rest of the amenities like WIFI, sound system and special lights are also available. There are three poles in the studio, only one is brass. Lightings are warm and nice and it kinda remind me of Pearls’ Hill Studio, more feminine and light coloured. Going at $10 an hour for non peak and $15 for peak.
There are no neaby MRT even the bus stop will require you to walk a bit. The only good thing in terms of transport is there is a large carpark nearby for those who drives. I would suggest those doing floor work or wearing boots not to take the pole near to the door because you might just hit the mirror or the door side.
So that is about it for my Pole studio reviews again. As I was writing this, I found out another studio is opening in Concorde Hotel Shopping Arcade. Cannot wait for it to be opened on this Sat 8th May.
