So Lululemon, some heard of it, some might not, it is a leading brand in athelesisure wear, predominantly for Yoga. They also have some apparel and accessories for running.
Once a while they will organise events for the community to spread awareness for sports and other sporting activities. It is good that the events are free and there are also collaborations with other sports or nutritional providers to give let the public understand how good health and nutrition can improve their lives.
This time round I signed up for the community run for the new store opening in Marina Bay Sands. I actually do not like this kind of public activity. Because I enjoy doing my trainings fast so that I can have the rest of the weekend doing other stuffs. But because this time, I happen to join a talk on injury prevention by Red Dot running company and happen so the owner, Ms Jeri Chua is an Ambassador for the Takashimaya Lululemon. While the speaker Mr Jesse Timms is for the Duxton Lululemon. Furthermore, I was enticed by the fact that free shakes will be given out by Shake Farm. That got me excited, I think this year I would like to go towards a healthy eating habit, and started to look into the various types of healthy food.
Some of these salads, wraps and stuff are very good for giving you the nutrition and not putting on the weight.
After signing up by spot on Event brite. I was ready for the 5km run. You can check out their FB page for more information for events.
Meeting Up
The new branch is really huge with a very large changing room area. Participants all gathered at the basement level 2 of Marina Bay Sands. Once you reach the store, they will register you with your e mail or phone number. After which we just hang around to wait for the event to start. It was to start around 8 am but we went off around 08:15 am. The program started with some introductions of the ambassadors and the pacers. A simple intention setting ( usually a practice for yoga) was carried out to allow us to think through what we want to achieve for the day.
After which we went to the open area outside the Arts Science Museum, with some leg kicks and static ones like calf, quartz stretch, we started to run off. The crowd was rather large so there were many different ranges of runners. Some were faster while others take their time to enjoy the sun.
The route is simple, from Marina Bay Sands we head to the barrage over the bridge and made our way back. Along the way there were no water points. But you may just stop for a drink of water at the water cooler along the way. Since the route is not stranger to me, I picked up pretty fast.
But due to the painful left feet, I have to hold back a bit . Sometimes the pain is just unbearable. Despite so, I tried to keep up with Jesse and hope to be in the point group.
Finishing it up
Since the route is no stranger, I manage to finish it but lagged behind the fastest pack. The point group was really fast. It was already getting hot and humid and many of us were sweating madly. As we hang around the place, we started to chat with the fellow runners. Exchange running information and activities for running around Singapore.
When everyone is back, we started to cool down at the same place. We also did the intention closing, with our eyes closed and thinking through our run this morning. It felt good. I thought maybe in future I will do a churvasana when I finish my run.
No Shake
Unfortunately, as I waited in the queue for the shake, the shake got fully redeemed. Kind of sad but I guess the organisers did not expect such a huge crowd to be with us. We got a coupon nevertheless but still need to have a minimum spending of $20.
Well I did manage to meet some people and it felt good being able to exercise with a group again.
