Hot Springs and what its effects for your body

When going overseas for races, I tend to chose those races which are in South East Asian climate.  I am really afraid of the cold.  And to me to run in any temperature lower than 14 degrees Celsius is actually too tortuous.  But many runners have reflected that running in colder temperature actually improves their timing.  This is the reason when I chose some of the oversea races, I tend to go to those which have hot springs!

Marathon #19: Mandiri Jakarta Marathon

The marathon was on 23 October 2016 at the MONAS. This was a monument in the down town Jakarta.  I had never been to Jakarta, first time seeing the monument was really impressive.  The race itself brings you to all the important sights in the city which can be difficult to go due to the bad traffic.  The route to say is not that bad as it was mainly flat.  However, this time the challenge is the rain.  There was a heavy down pour and all of us were drenched running in the heavy rain.

Taking Care of Your Hair- Prevention of Hair Loss

Sometimes I feel runners do not really care about their body when they over train or go too deep into running. I will be touching a few things about beauty and health in the next few posts.   Although we need to train hard, it should not be until that stage that we neglect our well being whether inside ( joints and organs ) or outside.

A normal, healthy person sheds about 50-100 strands of hair everyday, most of the hair will grow back.  Each strand have a life cycle of about 3-6 years.  Your scalp will start to show and looks bald when:

  • you hair drops more than 100 strands a day or a few hundreds.
  • When the hair does not grow back ( a condition known as Alopeica)

The Army Half Marathon takes place yearly for the Singapore Armed Forces to promote healthy lifestyle activities and also part of the challenge for the different arms in the Ministry of Defence.  Despite most of the runners actually take the shorter distance. Lactic acid and information about it

Once a while it is good to let it all go and rest your body.  If you look at yourself, the way you run might have already shown signs of deviation and compromising.  We got to admit, no matter how good you are, no matter how perfectly genetically engineered you are, unless you are artificial intelligence or Robots.  There is no way that you can escape Sports injury.  Therefore, good maintenance is essential and we need to be careful about it.  Let us look at something about Lactic Acid.

What happens when we exercise strenuously?

We breathe faster and faster to attempt to shuttle more oxygen to our working muscles.  The body prefer to generate energy burning the storage that we have with oxygen.  However, when we require more energy than we can adequately deliver the oxygen, the working muscles will generate the energy anaerobically.  In short, the body will breakdown the glucose to convert to energy using limited oxygen, a substance known as lactate will allow the glucose breakdown.  In this manner the lactate level drives up and increase in the acidity of within our body.  This is where we feel soreness and tiredness when we train too much or too hard.

Local Races- Mizuno Ekiden and Shape Run

July is a local race month for me.  It has been sometime, since I do some races in Singapore.   It gets a bit routine running in Singapore, because the places that you are run are the same.  Usually it is some parks ( commonly the East Coast Parkway) and city area.  The heat and humidity makes it not much of a challenge as compared to places with different seasons.
