What is Blood Sugar?
It is the level of sugar or glucose ( the most simplified form of sugar ) transported in your blood stream to supply energy to all the cells in your body. These sugars are made from the food we eat. The human body regulates blood glucose levels so that it will not be too high or too low, which is resultant in the ability to perform in your day to day tasks. Glucose is the main energy for your muscles, metabolism and brain. After you eat, the glucose enters the bloodstream fast and cause an increase in your blood sugar level. The pancreas then revs its production of insulin, a hormone that helps the cells absorb glucose and use it to function.
What kind of food provides good sugar?
Simple, if it is white usually the food is not very healthy for us, take for example white polished rice, white sugar, full fat processed, pure white bread. Also a lot of processed food such as ice cream, cakes and other types of highly processed food with a lot of artificial materials. My emphasis cannot be stronger, the more natural the food looks the more healthy it is. Healthy grain and nuts, whole food such as lean meat, fruits and vegetables are also good source of nutrition that you should be looking at for maintaining a good blood sugar level. Of course, do avoid alcohol esp beer as they are high in simple sugar. Do not load your body more than it needs to process because it is very taxing on your body and it can cause damages to your essential organs eventually.
Blood sugar spikes can limit the amount of glucose that your brain receives and results in symptoms like brain fog and fatigue.
In fact how fit you are and how much you can perform when you do exercise is also dependent on the blood sugar level. Keeping your level stable will help to release the energy that you need. Too low blood sugar can also cause fatigue and faintness in your day to day sports performance. Here are some of the tips that can help to balance out your blood sugar to good level:
- Enough sleep and hydration: This good old formula is the basis of the way of life. Do not sleep late and over sleep. Having enough hydration also help in your day to day activities and flushing of the toxins.
- Cinnamon: You will be surprised that cinnamon actually helps the cells to absorb glucose from the blood and use it for energy. Just a small sprinkle can do the wonder.
- Do a mix of Cardio and Muscle training: do not just keep doing one type of exercise which will regulate the blood level only at that level only. It is important t have a variety to help regulate the blood sugar level.
